Summary of this Tutorial:
If you want to show an excerpt of your blog post on your home page with a read more link, WordPress comes with two methods.
The first is the more tag, you can add it using the more tag button in the toolbar.
The second way is to use the excerpt field.
The issue with this method is this area’s display is determined by your theme.

So you copy an excerpt to a page other than where the blog is then add this tag? How does the tag know where to link? Is there more to it than this?
What to be done if I want to add a "Read More" button (an actual button not texts or dots) on home page. Kindly suggest your solution for Genesis Framework.
Any idea why my WP blog doesn't show the "more" tag? I put <!
-more Read More-> tag in the post, but all my theme does is show the excerpt withOUT the more link.I am trying to use the normal WP more tag but it isn't working…. Can you advise?
Anyone has the issue where the read more button takes the user slightly foward to the article? I have to scroll back up to read the full article when i click read more.
I tried using the Read More tag but it doesn't work. It shows the whole text on the homepage… Any idea why?
Perfect! Thank you for this.
It works!!!! Yippee. I'm making my first website and am using Genesis with the Focus Pro theme. The second way you showed did not appear with my theme FYI ; – )
Not a damn thing shows up with the "more" button. You really need to go into more detail. You should also add that to see the excerpt box that you may have to add it through "screen options" in the upper right hand corner. TIA
