WEBFI-WordPress-How to Switch from Blogger to WordPress without Losing Google Rankings
Do you want to move your site from Blogger to WordPress? Blogger is a free tool to let you start blogging but as your site grows most users begin to hit the limits of the platform and they want to swap to another tool like WordPress. In this video, we will show you how to properly swap from Blogger to WordPress without losing your Google ranking.
To begin this process you will need hosting and we recommend using BlueHost and our deal for BlueHost can be found Using this link:
https://www.wpbeginner.com/refer/bluehost/
For just starting out we recommend the basic plan which includes a free domain with your purchase. We also normally recommend removing the additional services to reduce the cost.
With the hosting set up and your WordPress site installed you will want to go back to your Blogger site under Settings to select Back up Content and save that XML file somewhere you can find on your computer.
Go back to your WordPress site and under Tools, Import and you want to click Install Now beneath Blogger to install the importer. The importer will install and activate itself then you will be able to click run importer at the top of the screen or in the same location that the Install Now link was located.
On the screen you are brought to after clicking ‘Run Importer’ you will want to add your file that was downloaded previously to begin the process. Upload the file and you will be able to choose to import the user from your blogger site or assign the content to your current WordPress user. Once the import is complete you will see an ‘All done. Have fun!’ message which means the posts should be imported. Pages and other custom content would need to be manually transferred.
Your permalinks will be different from how they were on Blogger so to resolve that you would want to fix that under Settings, Permalinks. We give the custom code in the text article for you to copy and paste into the custom structure. We also include the code to add to your functions.php for your theme.
With the content imported to easily update the URLs on your site, you would want to install and activate the ‘Blogger to WordPress Redirection’ plugin. Under Tools, Blogger to WordPress Redirection you will want to click the ‘Start Configuration’ button to have the plugin create the redirect you need and then you can click the ‘Get Code’ button below.
The plugin will generate a code snippet for you to redirect your blogger visitors to the new WordPress site. Go to your Blogger dashboard and under ‘Themes’ you will want to edit the HTML and if there is any code in there you want to keep be sure to save it in a new file. Replace the code in the theme with the code from the WordPress plugin and save to activate the redirect. Be sure to check the options under the mobile theme that it is not enabled and instead pointing to the desktop site.
The final step would normally be to redirect your RSS feed under Settings, Other and set the Post Feed Redirect URL to point to the new domain followed by /feed.

Hi… Thanks for the video.
I have a question.
I already have a custom domain setup for my blogger which I will point to the WordPress site.
My question is can I change the permalinks of my imported posts, just to make sure they are more cleaner. (Basically removing dates)
And somehow redirect old URLs which are already indexed to the new WordPress posts(for which I have changed the permalinks).
And if I can do so, do you have any idea how?
Whats about mobile version? Because Blogger url for mobile version is ?m=1in the end of url.
And it ranks on mobile devices with ?m=1.
Awesome Work 👍

also, can you suggest any other hosting setup platforms that provide the service free of cost?

Thank you very much.
Hey! This was a great tutorial, but I have 1 question – is it required to change the permalink structure on WordPress to redirect the links? I am migrating from Blogger to an existing WordPress site with existing articles, so I don't really want to change the current permalink structure if I don't have to. Thanks
